We live in one of the most incredible times in the history of the world. Because of the awesome electronic age in which we live, we have the ability to enjoy instant communication with each other at the push of a button. We no longer have to wait for the newspaper to be printed and distributed to find out what just happened halfway across the world – we already know. Smart phones, tablets, laptops and computers all keep us in the know. We also have so many Social Media platforms to choose from.
We have Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest to name a few. Larry Checco wrote an article entitled, “Good News Travels Fast” wherein he said, “It’s hard to go to a conference that doesn’t offer sessions titled, “How to Leverage Social Media to Benefit Your Organization” … “10 Ways Social Media Can Help You Raise More Funds” … “Social Media: Getting Your Story Out. What Every Social Marketer Needs to Know.” I’m no Luddite. But in full disclosure, even though I use it sparingly, I’m no big fan of social media for numerous reasons, including issues related to privacy, security, and time management, just to name a few. Despite any of my personal biases, however, the axiom that “Good news travels fast; bad news travels faster” holds more weight in this age of incredibly fast communications technologies than ever before. In short, when it comes to social media, be sure you’ve done your homework.” Because of this power of Social Media, smart companies should go out of their way to please customers. And, happy customers lead to great reviews.
This is why reviews become so important in building your business. Here’s a great article written by Myles Anderson entitled, “88% Of Consumers Trust Online Reviews As Much As Personal Recommendations”. Here are the key findings in this article:
- 88% have read reviews to determine the quality of a local business (vs. 85% in 2013)
- 39% read reviews on a regular basis (vs. 32% in 2013)
- Only 12% do not read reviews (vs. 15% in 2013)”
This brings up a point I’d like to share about how to treat customers. The customer is always king no matter what. You’ll never win an argument with a customer, because in the end they are always right. In the end, you want that customer to tell the whole world what great service they just received at your company. And, nowadays, this is usually always done through Social Media, which shows the power of Social Media.
